The Funeral Portrait Performs at Sold Out Show in North Carolina!

Writer: Fallon O'NeillFallon O'Neill

On February 22nd, 2025-The Funeral Portrait performed at the Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte, NC in front of a sold out audience!  I remember seeing these guys open up for the Issues Farwell Show in Atlanta, GA and I instantly knew this band would be huge. That show allowed me to make connections with the band themselves and they are some of the most genuine individuals I’ve encountered in the music scene! I drove 3 hours just for this band because I knew their performance would be the best one. When I got to the venue and waited on the line with my other photographer friend, most of the people in the crowd had The Funeral Portrait merch on which I automatically knew that a lot of the attendees came here just to see them! I had a bunch of attendees give me kandi bracelets with song names by band throughout the night! Once I walked into the venue; The Funeral Portraits line to the merch table was already packed with attendees waiting to meet the band. I saw that their merch person Dani was very busy and I captured a photo of her because everyone in the Coffin Crew deserves all recognition! I didn’t get any photos of Nathan who is their media person sadly, but I did see him do his thing on the stage during their performance!

Let’s talk about the performance! It started off very dark and each member slowly started to walk onto the stage and finally Lee came onto the stage! And the crowd behind me instantly started screaming. You can sense the love and devotion the attendees have to this band which is very admirable in my eyes. Bands may have the same effect on fans, but The Funeral Portrait is way different. And I will talk about that later on! I believe they opened up with Generation Psycho and Lee (Vocalist) has such a show man presence on stage and you can see that he’s the ringleader of the band because of how all the members interact with him. Rob moves around a lot on stage and it was so difficult to get photos of him, but he was so elegant, but aggressive at the same time! You’re So Ugly When You Cry, Voodoo Doll, and Hearse for Two was also performed during this set! And Lee during the set stated that Holy Water is being re-released and he hopes that it reaches to #1 on billboard charts like Suffocate City which they closed their set with! Each member is so theatrical throughout the whole set and doing the craziest things! Kissing one another, throwing guitars in the air, spinning guitars, and Lee’s most iconic kicks! During their set; Caleb waved at me and at the end of the set Lee touched my head and gave it a gentle squeeze. I love creating friendships and watching my friends perform on stage in front of hundreds of people.

At the end of their set; I saw maybe at least 60 people go straight to their merch table and it was so difficult to walk to the bathroom because of the line, but Lee was there within 10 minutes after their set! This is the difference between The Funeral Portrait and other bands; they actually take the time to talk to their fans, interact with them, and make connections. And they allow their fans to talk about their emotions and how much the band means to them without judgement. I got to talk to Rob, Caleb, and Lee at the end of the night and told them how proud I am of them. When you talk to these guys; you can sense love and appreciation and that’s rare in my opinion because most people just yes fans to death and don't actually care. Rob, Caleb, and Lee told me how excited they are for my photos because I captured some great shots of them in the past! So I hope I don’t let them down!
