It was a hot night in Nashville, TN at Marathon Music Works on July 2, 2024 when three powerhouse bands—408, Winona Fighter, and Sleeping with Sirens—delivered a searing night of music that showcased rock in an electrifying night that left everyone in attendance buzzing with energy.
Kicking off the evening was 408, a band that immediately captivated the crowd with their infectious energy and catchy melodies all while switching between three band members for lead singer duties for the duration of the night. Their blend of indie rock and alternative pop set a lively tone, drawing the audience in with tracks like "Into the Light" and "Falling Down." They also took an opportunity to showcase a new song, “Ultimatum”, that was written with their friends, emo powerhouses- We The Kings. Despite being relatively new on the scene, 408 showcased impressive musicianship and stage presence, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening.
Next up was Winona Fighter, bringing a raw, gritty edge to the stage. One of Nashville’s own, the band's performance was steeped in rock tradition, blending soulful vocals with powerful guitar riffs. Showcasing not only their new single “Subaru”, and an impressive cover of Blur’s “Song 2”, the band continued to show why they have such a strong following within the Nashville music scene. There was one small mishap of the night when lead singer, CoCo, took a spill on stage after running through a puddle of water- but that didn’t stop her from continuing to deliver the powerhouse performance that everyone expects. Winona Fighter's commanding presence and tight-knit musicianship left a lasting impression, both for those who were new to the band and the fans in attendance who have been following them for a while.
After not having a show in over 9 months, Sleeping With Sirens took the stage in Nashville to thunderous applause and cheers. You could tell that the crowd had braved the heat of the venue and the weather for this very moment. The headliners wasted no time diving into a setlist that spanned their illustrious career, delivering a high-energy performance that had the entire venue jumping and singing along the entire night. Frontman Kellin Quinn's vocals soared effortlessly through fan favorites like "Go Go Go" , “Never Enough” and "Leave It All Behind," while the rest of the band fed off of his energy and powered through the hits. The audience couldn’t get enough, and sang along while dancing and singing all night.
One of the highlights of the night was listening to the band perform a very moving acoustic performance of the GooGoo Dolls “Iris”. The crowd never stopped all night long. They sang every word to every song, and this cover was no exception. Highlighted by the phone flashlights from the crowd, it created a very intimate scene, even in a large venue that was very near sell-out, which is no easy feat in this hall.
Sleeping With Sirens is getting prepared to venture out on tour this fall, and although Nashville is not on the tour list, Kellin Quinn pointed out that they wanted to bring a little taste to the city, and that they did. Nashville has felt like a second home to the band, and you can tell that the city has accepted them as one of their own judging by the warm reception and eager anticipation of each song that was played. Nashville loves Sleeping With Sirens, there is no doubt.
Although it was a very warm night inside and outside the venue, this show was a testament that you can not stop rock in Music City USA. It was a vibrant and special night at Marathon Music Works, full of singing, dancing and of course, crowd surfing. This one of those shows that I believe that anyone who was in attendance will never forget.
