Before the Atlanta based theatrical emo hard rock band The Funeral Portrait, or TFP, released their anthem “You’re So Ugly When You Cry” in April of 2024, lead vocalist Lee Jennings teased that the fans wouldn’t believe the features on their upcoming album. “Ugly”, featuring Bert McCracken of The Used certainly did not disappoint. So, when the group announced that Spencer Charnas of the metalcore mainstay Ice Nine Kills was the featured vocalist on the heavy hitting “Suffocate City”, fans of The Funeral Portrait were understandably excited.
When asked about the inspiration for the song, Jennings shared that, “Suffocate City’ speaks to our listeners’ sense of fear. The fear of being stuck in a dead-end job, a dead-end relationship, or a dead-end financial situation. The fear of ‘never getting out’ is a ubiquitous experience that anyone can connect and relate to.”
“Suffocate City”, a fan favorite of TFP’s live shows, is a steady groove of a track with a catchy chorus that is sure to have crowds singing along when the band hits the road this fall on their first arena tour in support of Five Finger Death Punch and Marilyn Manson.
