Starting the night off strong was the German/Belgian outfit Nasty, a 20-year veteran metalcore group fresh off the release of their latest EP “Black My Heart” which Paleface Swiss refer to as a direct inspiration for their own existence. And they showed this Louisville crowd why. Blast beats and heavy breakdowns pummeled the crowd early and set the tone for this stacked evening.
Next band to take the stage was the Orange County legends Stick To Your Guns making their return to Louisville after a few years. They quickly picked up the pace with their fast riffs and punk energy firing up all the two steppers in the room to get moving. The city really showed out as fans had already filled the room and even members of Louisville’s Knocked Loose were in attendance. The love for hardcore was on full display for their set. To make the night even more special Knocked Loose guitarist: Isaac Hale, hopped on stage and took over on vocals for a song bringing his unmatched energy for everyone to feed off of. Truly an amazing performance from every member this night.
Last time Paleface Swiss were at Mercury Ballroom they were direct support for The Ghost Inside. Just eleven months later, fresh off the release of their latest studio album: “CURSED” they returned, headlined, and sold out the famous venue (well in advance). The crowd and the band both expressed their appreciation for each other as they arrived early in droves and did nothing else but have a good time. Tons of moshing, your expected walls of death, and tons of crowd surfing. During their encore “Against Them All” a flood of crowd surfers (not too dissimilar to the flash flooding we have been dealing with the past week in Louisville) rained upon the security guards as this was the hardest I’ve ever seen them work in years. While playing hits like “The Gallow” and tons of new bangers this night provided a perfect Friday night to cap to end any week. With just under two weeks left on this US run, you still have a chance to catch this amazing tour package as they begin their journey toward the west coast which circles back and ends in Chicago on April 26. You’ll definitely be glad you did.
