August 17, 2024 the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Mass welcomed the Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ

Top, and The Outlaws. Produced by Live Nation, the 2024 Summer Tour which started on

Friday 21 July 2024, landed last week-end in Massachusetts.

Thousands and thousands of fans attended the event. Before the live show performance,

people were eating, drinking, walking around the arena. It was a great night of music. The

repertoire was a mix of Blues, Hard rock, Southern rock, and country.

7:00 p.m. The Outlaws as the first opener arrived on stage. The American southern rock

band from Tampa, Florida played a series of songs from their different albums: The

Outlaws (1975), Hurry Sundown (1977), Ghost Riders (1980), Soldiers of Fortune

(1986), Diablo Canyon (1994), It’s About Pride (2012), and the new album Dixie

Highway released in 2020.

With a new lineup, The Outlaws performed at Mansfield with a group of talented artists

including: Jimmy Domire (guitars), Jeff Aulich (guitars), Henry Paul (guitars, vocals),

Mike Bailey (drums), Randy Threet (bass, vocals), and Dave Robbins (keyboards).

8:15 p. m. ZZ Top took the stage. The American rock band formed in Houston, Texas, in

1969 consisting of vocalist-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard and bassist-

vocalist Elwood Francis were terrific. Gibbons and Hill (deseased) were known for their

humorous lyrics, and the matching appearances of sunglass, hats and long beards, alongside

their longtime musician partner Frank Beard were phenomenal.

The Texas trio was terrific. Billy F Gibbons, Dusty Hill (deased replaced by Elwood

Francis), Frank Beard, after almost 45 years playing together had shown once again their

strong blues roots. They played a series of songs from different albums – Fandango (1975),

Recycler (1990), Degüello (1979), El Loco (1981), and their last release Eliminator (1983).

9:15 p.m. The audience went crazy when legendary rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd entered the

stage. The American Southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1964, although

performing without a single original member, was amazing. The current lineup features

guitarist and vocalist Rickey Medlocke, lead vocalist Johnny Van Zant, drummer Michael

Cartellone, guitarist Mark Matejka, keyboardist Peter Keys, guitarist Damon Johnson,

and bassist Keith Christopher.

The ambiance was electric and everyone was dancing and jumping during each song played

by the group. However the emotion was high inside the place when the music was played in

memory of the former members of the band who died in a crash plane accident in 1977. We

can feel the spirits of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines (Steve’s sister),

assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, flying on stage. Some fans were seen seemingly in

tears during “Tuesday Gone”, a tribute to Gary Rossington founding member of Lynyrd

Skynyrd and a true southern rock legend. The same emotion was in the room when the band

performed two iconic songs: Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird.

Saturday night, the atmosphere was electrifying at Xfinity Center in Mansfield. It was so

great to see so many people dancing off their seats.
