Kemikalfire embarked on their first ever tour. Lovedrafts was their first stop of the 3 dates. Kemikalfire is an extrodinary side project and the tale of two best friends. Taylor Carroll from Lit and Arejay Hale from Halestorm decided to take their friendship to the next level and form a two piece phenomenom. Both drummers of their respective bands, but for Kemikalfire, Taylor has taken the role of lead singer and guitarist. Arejay slayed the drums, sang backup vocals, sang lead vocals and pulled out his marching band drums for some added fun.
They performed 11 songs and squeezed in a drum solos and a dual. They started the show with their newest single "The Drop" and closed out the night about an hour later with their first single "Dead and Gone". Half way through their insanely energetic set the guys slowed it down for a minute. Arejay emerged from behind his kit, grabbed a microphone and took the lead vocals for "Grave". Taylor played guitar and sang harmony. If you know anything about Arejay, it's that he's spent the last 25 years or so playing drums and singing back up vocals with Halestorm. Seeing him shine on the front of the stage for a few minutes was something really great to witness.
Taylor got his moment in the spotlight as well. Arejay did a short drum solo then handed the sticks off to Taylor. He did a couple minute solo then Arejay came out with his marching band set. They played off of one another and just looked like they were having the best time.
Kemikalfire will no doubt continue to grow. The band has immense talent, amazing songs, and a small but mighty fan base that will continue to spread the word. I urge everyone to watch out for more show dates in the future, they are not to missed.
I can honestly say that when I read these, I can feel the energy! It makes me want to see everyone (even if they’re new to me bands) but I love me some Arejay on the drums, any drums! Great review as always! Love the photos and the one with them together with their hands on each others shoulder is one of my favorites!
