I had the pleasure to talk with Edge of Insanity, a heavy metal band residing in Texas, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to dive into their world. Right from the first question, the passion this band has for their craft was unmistakable.
They label their sound as classic heavy metal, heavily influenced by the iconic Black Sabbath. Interestingly, their original plan was to be a tribute band to Sabbath, but thankfully for us fans, that plan fell through. Instead, we get to enjoy their incredible original compositions that feel like a fresh take on the classic heavy metal genre. After crossing paths in the music scene of New York, band members Gary and Stergas rekindled their collaboration back in Texas. They’re eager to return to New York to perform soon.
Currently touring with Tin Pool, both bands are excited about the possibility of collaborating. With elements reminiscent of Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike," paired with Tin Pool’s Alice in Chains vibes and Edge of Insanity’s Black Sabbath essence, a joint song would undoubtedly be epic.
Reflecting on their journey, they shared that playing iconic venues like CBGB and the Whisky has been exceptionally rewarding—especially with the band Pentagram. For their new lead singer, it was a surreal experience, as he only had 30 days to master the setlist. They pride themselves on delivering unique performances, ensuring fans won’t hear the same song in the same way twice. Every track carries its own dynamic while staying true to the Edge of Insanity sound.
Inspired by Lemmy's mantra to "not live life in regret," drummer Gary founded the band after serving 13 years in the army. He enjoys connecting with younger artists, and it doesn’t matter if there are five people in the crowd or 5,000—watching fans engage with their music is what fuels him. Each performance is treated like a major production; they pour their hearts into it as if they are performing for 50,000 people.
They have a new single, "American Crime," set to release soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that. One of the key takeaways from our talk was their encouragement to support the metal scene. They suggested people search for new artists on Apple Music, scroll to the bottom for recommendations, and explore bands they’ve never heard of before. There’s so much hidden talent out there, and it’s crucial to dig beyond the mainstream radio waves.
Despite only being a band for four years, their love for making music shines through, whether they reach one person or a thousand. They thrive on fan interactions, often giving away drumsticks and genuinely wanting to see the next generation of artists succeed without barriers. They take great pride in their reputation, especially when venue staff, security, and fellow musicians commend their kindness and talent. It’s as crucial to them to maintain a positive reputation offstage as it is to create memorable music on stage. Rock hard, but stay humble—that’s their mantra
It was truly awesome to have Tin Pool with us for the interview as well! They’re having a blast on tour with Edge of Insanity and, once that wraps up, they’re heading back to the studio. They’ve already recorded five tracks, but there are still fifteen more to come! After the tour, they’ll focus on finishing the recording process. With influences that span Cream, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and even Stevie Wonder, we’re in for an incredible experience! Plus, they have a new drummer and some exciting lyrical twists that promise to bring a fresh vocal melody!
