“Ghost Arcadia’s range of influences, collectively and individually, push them to write depending on the moment while not letting the constraints of a single genre define them.”

“Heavy as fuck!”

WITH JUST A HINT OF MAYHEM

Having reinvented themselves over the past year, alternative stalwarts Ghost Arcadia are ready to independently release their brand new EP, What We Become, on the 6th December.

When we look in the mirror, do we truly see ourselves or do we just see the version of ourselves that society has placed upon us? ” is the question posed to listeners. Conceptually built around the themes of belief and perception, What We Become will be Ghost Arcadia’s second EP since their advent back in 2019. Lyrically, the EP draws influence from their personal lives, as well as the honesty that can be heard on Sleep Token records. From opener ‘Cyclone’, to title track ‘What We Become’, the EP takes the listener on a journey through self discovery, starting with a confession and gradually going through the motions to challenge those feelings. Sonically, What We Become is as heavy as it is cathartic - pulling no punches with their riffage, vocalist Reuben pulls out all the stops to develop those emotionally charged screams, as Ghost Arcadia carve a niche for genre-fluid modern metal.

Compositionally this is probably our most ambitious project yet,” the band added. “We have tried to pull from as many of our eclectic pool of influences as possible, and didn’t want to make something that’s been heard before. We wanted to show how far we are willing to push ourselves for our art and hopefully you will start to see what we can become…”.

The EP release will include their previously unheard title track, ‘What We Become’. Described by the band as “the final step in our journey of awakening,” and starts off just as heartfelt as the sentiment. Reminiscent of Sleep Token’s ‘Blood Sport’, poetic lyricism soars above a delicate piano melody, before it all comes crushing down in a heavy cacophony. Beau Davies’ dulcet tones turn to aggression as the band fully embrace what they have become. “What did we lose? What did we gain? Maybe we were like this all along and we just hadn’t shed enough layers of dirt to uncover the diamonds beneath. Maybe we are metamorphic beings after all…

Priding themselves on writing adrenaline-fueled tracks and drawing inspiration from all different genres, it is no surprise that the EP’s inspiration is the mantra "Genre is dead." Ghost Arcadia originally consisted of vocalist Reuben Beau Davies and rhythm guitarist Anthony Hollis, soon promoting Adam Ford (lead guitar) and Ali McCreadie (drums) to the ranks. With some notable radio play from BBC Introducing and Total Rock (Chris Stevens), as well as picking up Maximum Volume Music's‘ Band of the Day', Ghost Arcadia are ready to set the alternative scene alight, and prove themselves as a band who refused to be pigeonholed.

New EP What We Become will be independently released on the 6th December.
