Is there better way to celebrate the hottest summer on earth than indoors at the Wind Creek Events Center with the Island Glow Tour, I don't think so. This tour was headlined by the veteran reggae rock band Dirty Heads with support from Hip-Hop artist Lupe Fiasco, Hip-Hop blues fusion band G Love and Special Sauce, and reggae rock, Hip-Hop fusion band Tropidelic.
The night was filled that island feeling both on stage and off. Tropidelic gave the most energetic performance of the evening, Dirty Heads came in slightly behind in the energy and stage presence but their performance was solid. G Love and Special Sauce has always been laid back, the performance was great even with the subdued nature. Lupe Fiasco kept is simple as Hip-Hop was originally intended to be. He performed with just his DJ, DJ Smokey. He spoke about the it being the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop a few times between his songs and instructed the audience that they were expected to sway their arms and bounce.
This was the calmest audience I've ever seen at this venue but between the island inspired drinks and the epic cloud of marijuana smoke I was not surprised. Everyone had a great time although I saw a few audience members ushered out by medics, but they mostly looked to be hot and dehydrated. The house was completely packed so there was little area to move on the floor to cool down. All in all it was a great celebration of island inspired music.
