Artist interview with Matt Burton and Brandon Breon of Chasing Wind.
What first got you into music?
The first time I heard it, I mean, I can remember humming Songs as soon as memories stick. Music is always been so compelling and captivating to me. My parents also had a good taste in music. I remember my dad would crank up the volume in the car and drive my mom. Crazy.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before?
I would describe it as high energy, complex, but also fun to listen to. Heavy but sentimental, fast paced and melodic.
Was there a defining moment when you realized music was your calling?
Yes, my friends encouraged me to do it, even when I didn’t believe in myself. That’s how I knew it was something I was good at, and something I was meant to do
Where do you find inspiration for your lyrics or melodies?
God! Life, struggles, relationships, philosophy, and other artists
How do you balance personal expression and creating something your audience will love?
When a song takes form, it has a meaning to it. It comes from a place in the heart. If you truly expressed yourself, the audience will feel it and connect with it.
What has been the most rewarding moment of your career so far?
Playing our first show in July. Touring this last March has also been exceptional. The music video release was also very meaningful. I guess it’s hard to narrow it down to just one.
Are there any specific milestones you’re working toward in your career?
Someone I’ve never met, singing the words to our song, touring internationally, releasing our first album.
How do you prepare for a show or tour?
Warm up, and lock in. Trust in yourself.
