Album Review: Better Lovers- Highly Irresponsible

Better Lovers is striking the music world with a collection of songs we can all go absolutely wild to. Rising in 2023 out of Buffalo, NY, Better Lovers has taken the hardcore genre by storm and has quickly earned a name for themselves among the music scene. Following the teaser singles, “At All Times”, “Future Myopia”, and “A White Horse Covered In Blood”, Better Lovers is set to release a full length album, Highly Irresponsible. In typical Better Lovers fashion, our beloved musicians absolutely knock the doors down following the mellow, anticipating intro to the first track, “Lie Between The Lines”. From this point, it is complete chaos ready to take you down a journey through hardcore perfection. Key takeaways include the energy put into the performances, dark and high-intensity lyrics, and overall bringing out the crazy desire to risk your life in a mosh pit.

The album features 10 tracks all packed with more than enough intensity to be at the edge of your seat. Following “Lie Between the Lines”, we get “Your Misplaced Self”; a song that’s firing on fully automatic from beginning to end. Featuring lyrics that display the contrasts of humanity as seen through different angles. Along with the brutal music tracks come Greg Puciato’s vocals delivering the message with full emotion and a fierce tone.

Other songs that refuse to hold back include “Drowning In A Burning World” and “Everything Was Put Here For Me” both of which feature a guitar intro before the vocals, drums, and bass work with them to bring out nothing but raw power. Some of the unforgiving lyrics include quotes as “Look at us forgotten, trained to bide our time. Look at us, forgotten, festering inside” and “We’re dying, nobody cares we’re dead and nobody cares, we’re dead in our sleep…”. The band’s creative process is shown throughout the album with more memorable and meaningful lyrics within the other tracks- a continuous masterpiece.

Previously released tracks “A White Horse Covered In Blood” and “Future Myopia” come at the listener with threatening lyrics and forcing the facing of consequences of making certain decisions for the worst. There is nothing to be desired with a perfect delivery of the breakdown found in “Future Myopia” as it builds up flawlessly, preparing you for its crazy outro. This is something that is heard throughout the album in multiple songs as the whole thing winds up feeling like a roller coaster with endless twists and changes. Whether it’s a slower, heavier track like “Deliver Us From Life” or a kick to the face like the final track, “Love As An Act Of Rebellion”, you can rest assured that Highly Irresponsible is a mastercraft of the talented Better Lovers.

Without spoiling too much, this is a unique work of art that has the absolute potential to stand out among other rising works of the hardcore genre of our modern age. One can only assume that every one of the band members went into the studio to be the better version of themselves as musicians and artists. Highly Irresponsible is set to release Friday, October 25, 2024 and will be available on all major streaming platforms. Additionally, the album release will be followed by a month-long tour (With Full of Hell, Gouge Away, Spy, and Cloakroom) throughout The United States and Canada starting this November.
